Ecological Systems Theory

Ecological systems theory, also referred to as development in human ecology theory or context, identifies four kinds of nested environmental systems, along with bi-directional influences between and within the systems.

Ecological systems theory is a method to examine of human development that contains the scientific research of the mutual accommodation, progressive, during the life course, among an active, growing human being and the altering properties of the instant settings where the developing individual lives, since this process is impacted by the relations among these settings and through the larger contexts where the settings are embedded.

The ecological systems theory retains that development reflects the influence of a number of environmental systems and it identifies 5 environmental systems with which someone interacts. Mesosystem, microsystem, macrosystem, chronosystem and exosystem.

Urie Bronfenbrenner produced the ecological systems theory to describe how everything inside a child and the child's environment impacts the way a child develops and grows. He labeled various levels or aspects of the environment which influence children's development, such as the mesosystem, the microsystem, the macrosystem and the exosystem. The microsystem is the small, immediate environment the child lives in.

Children's microsystems will contain any instant organizations or relationships they interacts with, for example their immediate caregivers or family and their daycare or school. How these organizations or groups communicate with the child will have an impact on the way the child grows; the harder encouraging and nurturing these interactions and places are, the greater the child will be capable of grow. In addition, how a child reacts or acts to these individuals in the microsystem will impact how they treat her inturn.
